It’s All Perspective

On 9-11-01, my brother called me and yelled, “Traci, tell Mommy and Dada I’m ok, and I will call as soon as I can – they didn’t answer the phone!!”
Confused, I replied, “Wait, what happened??”
“Turn on the TV! I’m ok, but I have to go!”

My brother was in New York on business and had planned to go to lunch that day at the top of the towers….

I was in my classroom during my planning period. The biggest worry I had that morning before his phone call was deciding on where I would purchase school uniforms to teach in. I wanted to save money and stop buying clothes for a minute. (I made it an issue for my 26-year-old-self)

I never bought a uniform. Not because I couldn’t find a place to buy them, but I decided never to let such a frivolous “worry” dominate my heart again.

Of course, I have since had many decisions like that, but I have learned to put things into perspective with that morning. Some things just don’t matter…..a LOT of things just don’t matter.

BECAUSE….it’s all perspective!

Fast forward 20 years, and my America has changed…again!

It took the tragedy of losing 2,996 to unite us, but today the death of over 660,000 continues to divide us!!???

I’m tired of hearing about another friend or loved one dying from Covid-19! I want to continue to teach face to face! I want to SING songs and dance with my students like we did in 2019!

I can’t help but wonder, “what if this disease came with a face? Would everyone put up that united front that was so strong after 9/11”??

This disease is a terror attack, but are we so consumed in our little worlds to come together and beat this once and for all? I can’t imagine turning off my tv and ignoring what was going on around me 20 years ago. Are we doing just that today?

2,996 is shocking. 660k is numbing. But we can’t become so numb that we don’t do our part as citizens.

I didn’t post about 9/11 on the anniversary, because it was what happened right after it that made this country great.
We cared so much for the 2,996…but all of us know someone personally of the 660,000. We should all be willing to fight this one, just like we all flew our flags so many years ago.

Get vaccinated, wear your mask, and stay socially distant.

It’s all perspective.

Stay Tuned

It doesn’t matter how many times I hear our national anthem, nothing compares with Whitney Houston’s performance at the 1991 Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. Enjoy!
