You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch! – 12 Days of Christmas Carols

“So many Christmas songs…so little time!”

#9 You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch

Don’t let a Grinch pinch your joy this Christmas!

If you ever have bubbles to blow, there will always be someone nearby just waiting for the opportunity to pop them – and so it is at Christmas.

We all know one – a Scrooge, a Grinch, whatever you want to call them. Maybe it’s your boss, a co-worker, a neighbor, or even a family member.

You brace yourself for the cynical comments that are sure to come out of their mouth when they see your Christmas decorations. You ignore their sly remarks when you tell them of the Christmas Zoom parties you were invited to. You don’t dare turn the TV channel to Hallmark or Lifetime between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve when they are around. And you definitely do NOT sing along with the uninterrupted playlist of Christmas carols on the radio when they get into your car.

Why not? Because they are a GRINCH!

They are mean, mocking, skeptical, sarcastic, rude, negative, scoffing, sneering, and contemptuous! BUT… you still love them, and you want to spread Christmas cheer!

Good for you, Cindy Lou Who!!

Don’t let them get you down, and continue to brighten their day with the joy of Christmas! Even Scrooge and the Grinch came around at the end of their movie! Hopefully, so will your mean one!

“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” are the words of Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) and the music of composer Albert Hague. The originally recorded bass vocals were of Thurl Ravenscroft – who interestingly enough – did not get credit for singing in the 1966 animated film. It is commonly assumed that the narrator of the film sang the song – but the truth was – the narrator could not sing.

Here are some great recordings of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”! Listen to the words, and you will realize that, in comparison to the real Grinch, your “Grinch” can’t be all that bad!

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

TAY ZONDAY – Not only is Tay Zonday’s voice amazing, his video is so much fun to watch!

TAKE 6 – Skip past the narrative intro and you have stumbled upon the one of the coolest harmonic recording of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” out there!

THURL RAVENSCROFT – I had to include the voice that has made it’s way into the hearts of millions many years ago!
